20z14 inches, pastel on pumiced rag board.
The winter is apparent in this study. I had an elevated vantage point. The stream emerged out of a tangled grove. I disappeared quickly in the distance. Staying with this scene for a while was exciting. The mood was arcane. It could have been a million years ago. The magic was still there. Before journeying on the water pooled beneath me and the rocks below could be seen under the clear mountain water. I knew I would paint a formal piece in the studio. But this study would live on its own. I think a felt a little of the awe that Vincent Van Gogh must have felt when he viewed his next painting in the wild.
