This is the companion piece for 'Elephants'.  The large studio painting is gone now. My time in Moab was ending. I had improved my skills in landscape painting. I previously studied portraiture. The efforts to create a wet in wet style that could be used in anything I painted was progressing. I had started the efforts with my study of the nude. It was those efforts to paint better portraits that led me to want to grow in landscapes also. The paintings from Moab, the pastels and oils painted on location, showed me that there is spirit in the land as well as its people.
