18x24 oil on canvas plein air

This was my front yard. As a kid I used to find a lot of petrified wood. Some had never been unearthed. My childhood friends who owned the farm were at one time, big tomato farmers and they had a band of laborers from Mexico that still lived in the back. They would build fires sometimes and drink and listen to the radio behind my house. There were more than a dozen roosters and sometimes one would lose a fight and they would have a chicken dinner that night. Jeannie who was the lady of the house was quite gorgeous and worked at the tomato shed in high heels some days. She was much loved by the workers.

One day she came home from being away and they had built her these two flower pots ornamented with large pieces of ancient petrified wood. They were pure Texas. I planted the flowers and they bloomed all summer.
