12x16 inches oil on canvas. plein air

When observing a subject, the artist will look at it from many angles trying to understand its characteristics, what its purpose is, what its constituents are, where it has been, where it is going, and how it fits into the world.

I moved into the old brick farmhouse in my hometown in 2000 after leaving Taos. I wanted to understand some of the experiences I had. I went online and discovered groups of people who described themselves as 'Non-dualists'. I had been involved in Raja Yoga for many years and never heard of non-dualism. It turned out they were the people I could discuss experience with. I embraced the semi-hermit lifestyle on the farm.

Each day was an opportunity to continue a discussion on line with friends and go outside to a lot things I wanted to paint.

Much of what I wanted to do was create color studies at different times of day.
