11x14 oil on canvas plein air

I notice the afternoon light changing too quickly when it was near sundown. I decided to only spend ten minutes each of three paintings. For three days I was out at the same time thirty minutes before sundown. At the end of the three days I carried three very wet small canvases inside to look at them in room light out of the sun. This was the accepted practice at the Cape School where I studied. Hensche always insisted on doing critiques in incandescent light. He was right. You can see the colors better. I think it is because the ultraviolet light outside puts a haze on the colors. We can't see the ultraviolet but it has an effect.

It is exciting to finish three pieces at one time. Three new things that did not exist before existed now.
