20x26 inches, Oil on canvas.

I took a day trip from Taos to Mesa Verde. There is a pride in humanity at the same time there is a realization of the danger in humanity when walking among the ruins. They clearly sought to discourage a conquering nation by living in such a difficult place. The striking feature to me was the level of co-operation that must have existed.

I grew up in Texas where the 'Indian Paintbrush' was abundant. I noticed this grandfather paintbrush and then saw the ruins behind it. The spirit of the peoples that left there so long ago was still there. I think that when we give our attention to something we elevate that thing and it responds. I think we are connected. The flower to me is the spirt of the Anasazi. I am sure they gazed on these flowers also.
